I’ve noted may times throughout this Twelve Recipes of Christmas series that Christmas is all about sweets and booze. So why not combine the two into a perfect holiday dessert?

On the Tenth Day of Christmas Recipes: Eggnog or Eggnot?
I consider myself a pretty adventurous eater. I’m willing to try most things and enjoy them equally. But for whatever reason, I can’t get behind eggnog. I don’t think it’s the raw egg part. Who knows what’s really in that supermarket eggnog, but the real stuff, in case you hadn’t guessed, has egg whites. I can deal with that. I eat home made mayo and make Caesar dressing. I really can’t pin the exact reason, there’s just something about the stuff that creeps me out.
Whether I like it or not, eggnog is pretty synonymous with Christmas. Almost as much as Christmas cookies are. I’d like to say cookies are what children think of and eggnog is the more adult version, but I know PLENTY of adults who’d rather go for the plate of cookies rather than a glass of eggnog. You know who you are…
On the Ninth Day of Christmas Recipes: Christmas Menu Planning
Originally I planned to post Christmas Eve and Christmas Day menus, well on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Then I realized, for those of you frantically searching for what to serve your family and friends on those days, the day of is too late. Well, I actually think even now is a bit too late–I like to plan my menu out at least a couple of weeks in advance and try to start prepping what I can around now, if possible. But that’s me. As much as I love hosting guests, it stresses the hell out of me. Early planning is essential to prevent a nervous breakdown.
On the Eighth Day of Christmas Recipes: Christmas Pies
Ever notice how sweet focused Christmas is? Really all holidays I guess. Christmas cookies and cupcakes and cakes and pies and hot chocolate and eggnog…the list goes on! Sure there’s some savory dishes that become favorites like turkey and ham but for the most part when you go to a party or an event, the dessert is the highlight. Just think how much time and effort (and money) brides put into coming up with the perfect wedding cake. It’s a centerpiece of the whole day. For Christmas desserts, I think of cookies first, but pies…mmmm, pies are a very close second.
On the Seventh Day of Christmas Recipes: Have Some Cupcakes
I thought long and hard about this, but I will not be making Christmas cupcakes this year. Generally I bring something to my family’s Christmas Eve dinner and really wanted to bring cupcakes, but it’s just going to be too difficult. My dessert making will take place in my mom’s kitchen and while my mom’s a good cook/baker, she’s not a cupcake maker. Meaning I would have to schlep my piping tools, cupcake scoop, liners to her place, along with the rest of our clothes for the next 4 days and presents. And while my mom’s kitchen is FAR MORE exquisite than my shabby Brooklyn rental (that I’m not willing to invest any money I can’t take with me in) kitchen, it lacks one essential appliance.
