Good morning, good morning! I feel like I should insert a little tune here. Mornings are really all over the place for me. Sometimes an early rise, like being at the Park Slope Food Coop for a 5am receiving shift the other day (the farmers from upstate were already there so just imagine how early they got up…) to waking up at 2pm on a Sunday afternoon, and then wondering at 7pm where the day has gone. When time permits, mornings mean breakfast. Good, slow, effort filled breakfasts. Growing up we had pancakes every Saturday morning for as long as I could remember. My brother and I would watch Saturday morning cartoons (which apparently don’t really exist anymore) and wait for our mom to prepare breakfast. Sometimes we’d help but more often not. If it was a really special day, our pancakes would be in the shape of hearts, stars or even a Mickey Mouse face.
Most days are on the go and breakfast and simple. Granola over yogurt, fresh fruit or sometimes just an egg. But when I have time, breakfast becomes a feat. Fresh muffins, pancakes, eggs chock full of whatever vegetables are on hand, meat and fruit. I may wake up around 9am, with coffee first on the food prep list, but the full meal might not get served until closer to noon. Partially due to the intricate steps and partially because of my sleepy morning pace.
As with most photo challenges, I think in terms of food. I’m not opposed to scenery but most days I’d rather gaze at a beautifully plated dish than a collection of trees. When this week’s topic was Good Morning! I instantly looked to breakfast. As I always admit, I’m not the greatest photographer. I work off my iPhone5 for now but would like to think I’ve improved over time. For this challenge I could think of nothing better than to take a look back at some of my favorite breakfast recipes. From past to present, here is what I’ve made and how the images have changed.

I love having a real breakfast and also had a Saturday morning ritual, waffles and watching Saturday morning cartoons. I remember the melted butter on the waffles and warm maple syrup. So delicious. Your photo’s are beautiful and look so so yummY!!
Thanks Suzanne for such positive feedback all the time! We tried to turn on Saturday morning cartoons a few weeks ago and couldn’t find anything quality. Kids these days don’t know hat they’re missing!
