I thought long and hard about this, but I will not be making Christmas cupcakes this year. Generally I bring something to my family’s Christmas Eve dinner and really wanted to bring cupcakes, but it’s just going to be too difficult. My dessert making will take place in my mom’s kitchen and while my mom’s a good cook/baker, she’s not a cupcake maker. Meaning I would have to schlep my piping tools, cupcake scoop, liners to her place, along with the rest of our clothes for the next 4 days and presents. And while my mom’s kitchen is FAR MORE exquisite than my shabby Brooklyn rental (that I’m not willing to invest any money I can’t take with me in) kitchen, it lacks one essential appliance.
That’s right, a KitchenAid mixer. Since my mixer and I first met, two years ago this Christmas, we’ve been joined at the hip. It adds another item to my “should we have kids” con list because I think I might still favor the KitchenAid. I swear I’m really not a horrible being… Right now, I think KitchenAid and my husband are tied for my favorite spot (with my turtle in a close second–he’s just so cute!) because depending on the day, KitchenAid is a lot more helpful.
So without KitchenAid and my cupcake making gadgets, I’ll instead be making my very first recipe from my new AUTOGRAPHED copy of The Smitten Kitchen Cookbook. Don’t worry, I’ll let you know how it goes. Don’t hold your breath, though. It probably won’t be until after the New Year considering I’ll have all of one free day to myself between now and then. But just because I can’t have cupcakes for Christmas, who am I to deprive the rest of you? Below are my top favorite cupcake Christmas cupcake recipes.
